Distante de ser um projeto ambicioso, Hill simula diversas vezes uma esp\u00e9cie de proje\u00e7\u00e3o amadora, como se fossem feitas com filmadoras de baixo-custo, causando a sensa\u00e7\u00e3o de que estamos assistindo a um longa caseiro. No entanto, o diretor tamb\u00e9m encontra espa\u00e7o para deixar a c\u00e2mera im\u00f3vel, permitindo que os personagens consigam interagir de forma org\u00e2nica. \u00c9 um trabalho pessoal que consegue mostrar a ess\u00eancia dos anos 90 sem exagerar no fator nost\u00e1lgico.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Boa parte da proje\u00e7\u00e3o mostra o crescimento do personagem diante das c\u00e2meras. Stevie come\u00e7a o filme como um menino comum, jogando Super Nintendo, roubando os discos do irm\u00e3o mais velho e acabando brutalmente agredido por ele. A partir do momento que nota o distanciamento da fam\u00edlia, o protagonista migra as energias para o grupo de skatistas, local que torna praticamente seu novo lar. Cigarros, \u00e1lcool e drogas entram para rotina di\u00e1ria, al\u00e9m de certa aptid\u00e3o para o Skate. Afinal, s\u00e3o eles que est\u00e3o contribuindo &#8211; ou n\u00e3o &#8211; para a personalidade do protagonista. O filme faz quest\u00e3o de n\u00e3o romantizar essas mudan\u00e7as bruscas, revelando as m\u00e1s influ\u00eancias e os bem-intencionados.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Suljic faz uma performance t\u00e3o s\u00f3lida que as vezes parece que n\u00e3o est\u00e1 atuando, e sim mostrando o dia-a-dia de um menino pobre em Los Angeles. Essa caracter\u00edstica tamb\u00e9m \u00e9 presente nos amigos do protagonistas, pois cada um apresenta uma hist\u00f3ria paralela, o que \u00e9 necess\u00e1rio para humaniz\u00e1-los.
